Who Created God

“Who Created God?” – A Straightforward Answer from Scripture
Every skeptic eventually asks it: “If everything has a cause, then who created God?”
The question feels like a checkmate… until you let the Bible answer it directly.
Here’s the short, scriptural answer most Christians miss because they try to argue philosophy instead of just quoting the text:
God was not created. He is the Uncreated Creator. Period. The Bible never defends this; it simply declares it as the starting point of reality.
Here are the verses that shut the question down every single time:
-
Psalm 90:2 “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.” → God exists from eternity past to eternity future. There is no “before” God.
-
Isaiah 43:10 (God speaking) “‘Before Me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after Me.’” → Not only was God not created; no other being in the category “God” has ever been or ever will be created.
-
John 1:1–3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made.” → Everything that has a beginning (i.e., everything that was “made”) was made through Christ. God Himself is not in the category of “things made.”
-
Revelation 1:8 (Jesus speaking) “‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.’” → He is the beginning and the end because He exists outside of time entirely.
- Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” → God’s very name is “the One who eternally exists.” He is pure existence itself. Created things “become.” God simply IS.
The Real Issue Behind the Question
When someone asks “Who created God?” they’re usually assuming this rule: “Everything that exists must have a cause.”
But the Bible (and logic) denies that premise. Instead, the actual law of causality is: “Everything that begins to exist has a cause.”
God did not begin to exist. Therefore the question answered.
C.S. Lewis put it this way: “Nonsense remains nonsense even when we talk it about God.”
Or, as the kids say today: “God is exempt from the rules because He wrote them.”
One Sentence That Ends Every Debate
Next time someone hits you with “But who created God?” just smile and say:
“By definition, if He was created, He wouldn’t be God. The Uncreated Creator is what the Bible means when it says ‘God.’ So the question is like asking ‘Who created the Uncreatable Being?’ – it’s a self-contradiction.”
Then drop the mic, walk away.
Because Scripture doesn’t argue about whether God had a beginning. It just starts with Him already existing forever… and dares you to deal with it.
From everlasting to everlasting, You are God. (Psalm 90:2)
That’s not a dodge. That’s the answer.
